Our Houses
We have a house system at Kingsmoor Academy which were voted for and named after the four elements: Water (blue), Fire (red), Earth (green) and Air (yellow). The initial names were thought up by the pupils and pupils had their voices heard through a democratic vote.
Pupils are assigned to a house and members of staff are also distributed amongst the house teams, with the exception of the Principal. Houses meet regularly for special house assemblies to discuss matters such as organising charity events.
House Credits
House credits are awarded to pupils for following the 6R’s and these are totalled each week by the house captain team. At the end of the half term, the winning house is announced and the pupils in this house can wear their house colours as a reward. At the end of the academic year, the winning house overall is announced and pupils in this house receive a special treat and their house name engraved on the House of the Year shield.
House Captaincy
Pupils in Year 6 can apply to become House Captains and pupils in Year 5 can apply to be vice captains. This entails an interview process through completing an application form, obtaining a character reference and giving a presentation to the house. The captains are then elected by members of the house to serve for the academic year.
Our teaching of British Values underpins our House Captain work. For example:
- We encourage respect for democracy and support for participation in the democratic processes.
- This process enables students to develop their self-knowledge, self-esteem, and self-confidence.
- We encourage students to accept responsibility for their behaviour, show initiative, and understand how they can contribute positively to the lives of those living and working in the locality of the school and to society more widely.
- House Captains and Vice Captains acquire a broad general knowledge of and respect for public institutions and services.
- We encourage respect for other people.
